Section 13.1 of Chapter 13 of the Code of Redwood City is hereby amended to read as follows: "Section 13.I. Purpose. The purpose of this chapter is to establish standards for restaurants, itinerant restaurants, mobile food vendors, caterers, food equipment

<br /> DAS:d 11/22/88 (#008/7) <br />SECTION 3. Article IX of Chapter 13 of the Redwood City <br />Code is hereby repealed. <br />SECTION 4. Article IX of Chapter 13 of the Redwood City <br />Code is hereby added to read as follows: <br />"ARTICLE IX. POSTING OF SIGNS WARNING OF THE EFFECT OF <br /> ALCOHOL DURING PREGNANCY <br /> "Section 13.175. Purpose. The Surgeon General of the <br />United States has advised women who are pregnant, or <br />considering pregnancy, not to drink alcoholic beverages. <br />Recent research indicates that alcohol consumption during <br />pregnancy, especially in the early months, can harm the <br />fetus, and result in birth defects including mental <br />retardation, facial abnormalities and other defects <br />involving heart and bone structure. In order to serve the <br />public health, safety and welfare, the purpose of this <br />article is to educate the public by requiring warning signs <br />to be placed at all locations in the city where alcoholic <br />beverages are sold to the public." <br /> "Section 13.176. Duty to Post Signs or Notices. Any <br />person or entity who own s , operates, manages, leases or <br />rents premises offering alcoholic beverages, including <br />without limitation, wine, beer, malt beverages and distilled <br />spirits for sale or dispensing for consideration to the <br />public, shall permanently post or display a sign or notice <br />on such premises as provided in this article. The sign or <br />notice shall read as follows: 'WARNING: Drinking Distilled <br />Spirits, Beer, Coolers, Wine and Other Alcoholic Beverages <br />During Pregnancy Can Cause Birth Defects.'" <br /> 2 <br /> 198 H <br /> .---., - <br />
