A bolder step would be to adopt all electric new construction REACH
CODES like Menlo Park, Morgan Hill, and San .dose did.
Adopting REACH building codes for our city would lay the groundwork for a greenhouse gas -FREE
future as new buildings and increasing numbers of vehicles will be able to rely on electricity, not fossil
fuels, for energy.
In a word, adopting the REACH CODES at the local level is one of our best hopes for moving toward a
healthier planet, an earth that sustains all living beings. We must remember that our personal health
is also at stake --more and more studies are showing that particulate matter from carbon emissions is
a major contributing factor in heart and lung disease.
So, Mayor Bain and all council members, I urge you to do the RIGHT THING for the planet and for
us, despite the pressure coming from special interest groups.
Please take this bold sten decisively instead of trying to water down Redwood City's REACH
CODES.
Thank you,
Your Constituent,
Sue Chow
Redwood City Resident
Peninsula Regional Group Co -Chair
Political Committee Member
Loma Prieta Chapter
Sierra Club
