With the successful passing of AB 1482, renters will not reap the protections of the
statewide law if they are evicted before it goes into effect. Because of the minimal renter protections in
Redwood City --minimum lease terms have proven to aggravate evictions, and tenant relocation assistance has
yet to be used --renters are especially vulnerable to the whims of landlords.
Last Tuesday, residents of Redwood City stood by SCoPE 2035 at the Stanford GUP hearing as we rallied for
more affordable housing and for resource sharing from Santa Clara County to San Mateo County. On Monday
we will stand by residents of Redwood City as they rally for preserving the housing they are positioned to lose.
We believe that the housing crisis is a regional problem that should be addressed by CASA's 3 P's of
Production, Preservation, and Protection.
Please vote in favor of the emergency ordinance to extend tenant protections up until the effective date of AB
1482.
Thank you,
Kate Ham (they/them)
Stanford University I Class of 2020
B.A. Candidate I Urban Studies
kateaham@stanford.edu 1 (832)-205-3969
