My name is Trinidad Molina I've lived in RWC for more than 27 years and on Marshall Street for 7 years. RWC for me is the place I felt was my home, where I wanted to settle: for the weather, the food, the environment and the job opportunities (for me as a cook) and for such a diversity of cultures. I am the father of 5 children: 3 grown children who have made their lives, and 2 girls of 10 and 11 who attend schools here at RWC, I try to help them to not think about the high rent increases but they hear their friends talking about the situation at their home. They come to me and say: "Dad, you already pay a lot of money in rent and everyone else leaves, why don't we go?" The community of faith to which I belong is very important because it keeps me strong and gives me hope to move forward. The Monte Carmelo Church is close to me. My job is close, I work at Mountain View in a nursing home for the elderly, I cook for them. Two of my older children also live nearby in RWC, and another in Fremont. Living here is a way to stay close to them. But I'm worried that I can't pay these excessive rent increases. I have a $ 430 increase in rent, other neighbors have $ 430 and $ 500 rent increases. These increases are affecting us 100%, making us work harder and spend less time with our children and with our spouses.. The problem is that not only do we pay rent, but also food, telephone, car, gasoline. Really the salaries do not cover the rental costs, and make us choose between eating or paying rent. We should earn at least $ 30 per hour just to cover rent and food, and even if we have experience in our jobs they don't pay us that amount. We can't handle such a high increase, I would have to do what many families have done, leave this area, although for me it will be very difficult since my work and my daughters' schools are here and we will start again from zero. It seems very unfair that apart from excessive increases we live with bed bugs and cockroaches. For years they have not done maintenance.
