Landlords should not be allowed to undermine the intent of AB 1482 by taking advantage of this
"eviction window" to get ahead of the January 1, 2020 implementation date. Although our state
legislature is responsible for passing this bill, it is the responsibility of Redwood City to protect
our own people. The City Council has a civic duty to ensure there is a local implementation plan
for these new tenant protections, and that they work for the residents of Redwood City as
intended. This includes preventing the kind of pre-emptive eviction activity we are seeing now.
Thank you for your careful consideration of these policy choices and stewardship of the
Redwood City community.
Sincerely,
Shirley E. Gibson
Directing Attorney
