You may wish to provide your <br />city council with regular program infonnation in regard to your position on our board. <br /> <br />WHAT ARE THE REOUIREMENTS: You must be a resident of . You must be at least 21 years old. You do not need <br />any experience in biology Of any other health-related sciences to be a valuable member. We do ask that you be interested in learning what we <br />do and sharing that information. <br /> <br />HOW OFTEN DO YOU SERVE: As a member of our board, you are elected to a two year term at first and can be reappointed for <br />two or four year terms after that. Our board meetings are once a month and meet on the second Wednesday each month. We do not meet in <br />August and December. The meetings are from 7:00 pm to approximately 9:30pm. <br /> <br />BENEFIT OF BEING ON OUR BOARD: As a member of our board, you serve as a active participant as the voice of your community. <br />You are instrumental in tbe enrichment and development for your city in regard to public health concerns. You will be compensated with a <br />check for $100.00 for each monthly meeting, which is in lieu of expenses and each board meeting you are provided with refreshments and <br />snacks for your pleasure. <br /> <br />A LITTLE ABOUT US: <br /> <br />The San Mateo County Mosquito Abatement District (SMCMAD) is an independent, property tax~funded district within S&n Mateo County. <br />SMCMAD originally founded to provide mosquito surveillance and control to cowrty residents. expanded over the years to provide yellow <br />jacket nest removal, insect identification, and vector-borne disease surveys to participating county residents. SMCMAD is also the <br />designated Africanized-honeybee swann removal agency, pending their arrival. SMCMAD is also dedicated to educate the community with <br />presentations to schools and agencies, as well as providing students with. opportunities to gain real scientific work experience and skills. We <br />strive to provide quality, personalized vector abatement services. We are continually testing safer, more efficient methods for vector control <br />to better service our community. <br /> <br />Services provided but not limited to: <br /> <br />. Mosquito inspection and control <br />. Recommendations on how to eliminate mosquito-breeding sources on residential property <br />. Insect identification services and information on biology and control <br />. Yellow Jacket Nest removal on residential property, providing the location of the nest is known <br />. Disease Surveillance such as Mosquito-borne encephalitis, West Nile virus, plague, hantavirus and Lyme disease <br />. Tick identification and information <br />. Provide mosquito-.eating fish for backyard ponds, pools and fountains (free to District residents) <br />.
