<br />9A <br />Page 5 <br /> <br />The Award for the Advancement of Diverse Communities was established by the City Managers <br />Department and honors a city manager or assistant city manager who has been most successful <br />in promoting the advancement of diversity within the community and the workplace through the <br />development and implementation of effective programs, policies and/or practices encouraging <br />diversity. <br /> <br />Nomination applications for each award are available at www.cacities.orQ/manaQers, under "2008 <br />John H. Nail Memorial Award & Award for the Advancement of Diverse Communities: The <br />application deadline is 5 p.m., on Friday, Dec. 21. If so, the League wants to hear from youl This is an exciting opportunity to share <br />your ideas, knowledge and expertise with local government staff, elected officials and decision <br />makers. <br /> <br />Each year, the League receives more than 200 submissions for 50-55 session slots. Annually, <br />the conference hosts approximately 2,200 attendees from across the state, including mayors, <br />council members, city attorneys, city managers, city clerks, municipal assistants, public works <br />officers, planners, planning commissioners, fiscal offlCel'S and city department staff. An exhibition <br />with over 320 vendors is also showcased. <br /> <br />The 2008 conference theme is "Sailing into the Future" and will be held at the Long Beach <br />Convention Center, Sep. 24-27, 2008. Submissions on any topic area are welcome. Please note <br />that only fully completed proposal forms submitted on or before noon on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008, <br />will be considered by the 2008 Annual Conference Program Planning Advisory Committee. <br /> <br />Any individual, group, business or organization may submit full proposal suggestions.
