SECTION 1910 OF THE BUILDING CODE AMENDED: Section <br />1910 of the Building Code is hereby amended to read as follows: <br /> <br />Section 1910.1. Concrete Slabs on Grade. This section shall apply to concrete <br />slabs on grade in construction related to Groups Rand U occupancies only. <br /> <br />Section 1910.1.1. Concrete slab floors, garage slabs, and driveways shall have a <br />minimum thickness of three and one-half (3 1/2) inches and shall be reinforced <br />with a minimum six (6) inch by six (6) inch by six (6) gauge welded wire fabric or <br />equivalent area of reinforcing. Welded wire fabric manufactured in mats shall be <br />used. All reinforcement shall be appropriately supported in order to keep the <br />reinforcement in the mid-depth of the slab until the completion of the concrete <br />pour. <br /> <br />Section 1910.2. Under habitable rooms of Groups R occupancies, a vapor barrier <br />approved by the Building Official shall be installed beneath the concrete slab <br />floor. Single-ply plastic vapor barriers shall not be used. An approved base <br />material of suitable consistency, compaction, and thickness shall be provided <br />directly under the concrete slab vapor barrier to retard capillary action. Two (2) <br />inches of sand shall be provided between the vapor barrier and the concrete <br />slab.
