Text:
Legal Limits are not the same as Public Health Goals.
Legal Limits are set by either the US EPA or California State Water Resources Control Board DDW
-If legal limits are exceeded treatment must be provided to reduce the contaminant below the legal level.
Public Health Goals are set by the California Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment.
-Public Health Goals are not enforceable or required to be treated in drinking water.
However, the Division of Drinking water uses Public Health Goals when setting the legal limits and
-Attempt to set the legal limit as close as possible to the PHG.
