6.1. - Page 1 of 3 <br />/<�ik <br />Redwood <br />CitylCallifornia <br />Faunded 1867 <br />Ago/ <br />DATE: December 16, 2019 <br />SUBJECT <br />STAFF REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br />Adoption of ordinance adding Article X to Chapter 2 of the Municipal Code expanding authorization for <br />contract execution <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Waive second reading and adopt the ordinance adding Article X to Chapter 2 of the Municipal Code <br />authorizing the City Manager, their designee, and any other City official authorized by ordinance or <br />resolution adopted by the City Council, to execute contracts. <br />STRATEGIC INITIATIVE <br />Government Operations <br />BACKGROUND <br />The authority to execute City contracts is governed by State statute and the City's Charter. Government <br />Code section 40602 provides, that the City Mayor shall sign: <br />(a) All warrants drawn on the City Treasurer, <br />(b) All written contracts and conveyances made or entered into by the city, <br />(c) All instruments requiring the City seal. <br />Section 40602 further provides that the legislative body may provide by ordinance that the instruments <br />described in (a), (b) and (c) be signed by an officer other than the mayor.
