Adopt a resolution designating 1633 Hopkins Avenue a Redwood City Historic Landmark and authorizing the City Manager or designee to execute a Historic Preservation Agreement; and 2. Adopt a resolution designating 1800 Whipple Avenue a Redwood City Historic Landmark and authorizing the City Manager or designee to execute a Historic Preservation Agreement. STRATEGIC INITIATIVE Government Operations BACKGROUND On August 8, 2019, the Historic Resources Advisory Committee (HRAC) toured both residences, reviewed the historic evaluations, and reviewed each proposed 10 -year improvement and maintenance plan. The HRAC voted 5-0 to recommend local historic designation of both homes, as well as voting 5-0 to recommend approval of the Mills Act Contracts and the associated 10 -year maintenance and improvement plans. Subsequently, the Planning Commission reviewed both homes at a public hearing on October 15, 2019, and voted 6-0 (Commissioner Smith absent) to recommend 1633 Hopkins Avenue and 1800 Whipple Avenue be designated as Redwood City Historic Landmarks and to approve each Mills Act Contract. DESIGNATION PROCESS (CHAPTER 40 — HISTORIC PRESERVATION) The Redwood City historic landmark designation process is a three-step process, which first involves a recommendation from the HRAC to the Planning Commission.
