7.B. - Page 1 of 22 <br />/<�ik <br />Redwood <br />CitylCallifornia <br />Faunded 1867 <br />Ago/ <br />DATE: December 16, 2019 <br />SUBJECT <br />STAFF REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br />Redwood City Historic Landmark Designation and a Historic Preservation Agreement (Mills Act Contract) <br />for the property located at 891 Edgewood Road <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Adopt a resolution designating the residence at 891 Edgewood Road a Redwood City Historic Landmark <br />and authorizing the City Manager or designee to execute a Historic Preservation Agreement. <br />STRATEGIC INITIATIVE <br />Government Operations <br />BACKGROUND <br />On August 8, 2019, the Historic Resources Advisory Committee (HRAC) toured the home, reviewed the <br />historic evaluation, and reviewed the proposed 10 -year improvement and maintenance plan. The HRAC <br />voted 5-0 to recommend local historic designation for 891 Edgewood Road, as well as voting 5-0 to <br />recommend approval of the Mills Act Contracts and the associated 10 -year maintenance and <br />improvement plans. <br />Subsequently, the Planning Commission reviewed the project at a public hearing on October 15, 2019, <br />and voted 6-0 (Commissioner Smith absent) to recommend 891 Edgewood Road be designated as <br />Redwood City Historic Landmarks and to approve each Mills Act Contract. <br />DESIGNATION PROCESS (CHAPTER 40 — HISTORIC PRESERVATION) <br />The Redwood City historic landmark designation process is a three-step process, which first involves a <br />recommendation from the HRAC to the Planning Commission. The second step is a recommendation from <br />the Planning Commission to the City Council. The third step is final action by the City Council.
