<br />REPORT <br /> <br />6.18 <br />Page 1 <br /> <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the Cit Mana er <br /> <br />January 28, 2008 <br /> <br />SUBJECT <br />Purchase of Three Harley Davidson Police Motorcycles <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Approve by rnotion the purchase of three Harley Davidson Police Motorcycles from San <br />Jose Harley Davidson of San Jose, CA in the amount of $64,331.68. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />The Public Works Services Department, in conjunction with the Police Department, <br />developed vehicle specifications for the scheduled replacernent of three 2001 police <br />motorcycles which are used for traffic enforcement. The City Clerk advertised the bid <br />invitation with copies of the bid being mailed to five vendors. The three bids received <br />were opened by the City Clerk on Wednesday, November 7, 2007, which are <br />sumrnarized as follows: <br /> <br />Bidder Bid Amount <br />San Jose Harlev Davidson $64,331.68 <br />Bob Drone Motorcvcles, Inc. $64,372.05 <br />Cycle Center of Fremont $64,942.89 <br />Recommended Bidder: San Jose Harley Davidson of San Jose, CA <br />Substantiation: Staff from Equipment Services interviewed several police departments who have <br />purchased police motorcycles from San Jose Harley Davidson and found that they have been a very <br />responsible bidder. <br /> <br />AL TERNA rIVES <br />Historically, police motorcycles have been on a six year life cycle and replaced before <br />any major failure occurs.
