6.A. - Page 1 of 27
/<ik
Redwood
CitylCallifornia
Faunded 1867
A,&/
DATE: January 27, 2020
SUBJECT
STAFF REPORT
To the Honorable Mayor and City Council
From the City Manager
Update Utility Account Collections and Service Discontinuation Policy to comply with SB 998
RECOMMENDATION
Adopt a resolution amending Resolution No. 14840 to repeal those provisions regarding notices to and
discontinuation of delinquent utility service accounts, adopting the Utility Delinquent Accounts Collection
and Service Discontinuation Policy, and authorizing the City Manager to administer and make changes to
the policy.
STRATEGIC INITIATIVE
Government Operations
BACKGROUND
Each utility customer in Redwood City receives a common bill for water, sewer, and garbage service, which
constitutes utility services. The City bills commercial customers every month and residential customers
every other month (60 -day cycle) for utility services. Each billing period represents, as closely as possible,
one month's service for commercial accounts and two months' service for residential accounts, except for
new services which may have been connected during the billing period.
The utility bills display current utility service charges and include any past due amounts from the
customer's previous unpaid balance. If a customer relocates to a new location in Redwood City, the
previous account balances, if any, are transferred to the new account.
City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.ore
5
