Curtis and Sons
RECOMMENDATION
1. By motion, find that strict compliance with Chapter 2, Article VII of the Redwood City Code does not
serve the public interest for the Master Purchase Agreement with L.N. Curtis and Sons, and suspend the
competitive bidding requirements for the Master Purchase Agreement (requires 5/7 vote for passage);
and
2. By motion, approve and authorize the City Manager to execute a five year Master Purchase Agreement
with L.N. Curtis and Sons in not to exceed amount of $1,000,000.
STRATEGIC PLAN GUIDING PRINCIPLE
Public Safety
BACKGROUND
The Fire Department, Parks Recreation & Community Services Department, Police Department, and Public
Works Services Department all make purchases from L.N. Curtis and Sons, also known as Curtis & Sons.
The Redwood City Fire Department makes the most purchases throughout the year for miscellaneous fire
supplies and equipment. Curtis & Sons is a trusted vendor used by the Fire Department as well as all the
other Fire Agencies in San Mateo County.
Last Fiscal Year (FY), Fire Administration submitted invoices to the Finance Division for payment processing
but they were not processed as aggregate payments to this vendor exceeded $100,000 without having an
agreement in place. Staff from Fire, Finance, and the City Attorney's office determined that an agreement
needs to be established for FY 2019/20.
City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.ore
P9
