The
purpose of the proposed ordinance is to address the recent increase in use of flavored tobacco products
(i.e. e -cigarettes, vapes, etc.) among youth and young adults. City staff has connected with the San Mateo
County Tobacco Prevention Program and the San Mateo County Tobacco Education Coalition, to better
understand the health implications from the use of flavored tobacco products. Additionally, staff has
reached out to several cities in San Mateo County that have recently approved and/or implemented a
flavored tobacco ban to gather additional information. For your consideration, the ordinances for the
County of San Mateo and the City of South San Francisco are attached for your review (Attachment A).
1of6
City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.ore
278
