-----Original Message -----
From: Julie Lind <smciclulie@sbcglobal.net>
Sent: Monday, April 6, 2020 4:55 PM
To: PublicComment <publiccomment@redwoodcity.org>
Cc: Erin Chazer <smcicerin@gmail.com>
Subject: 4/6/2020 7pm Meeting - Recommendation 10
Dear Mayor Howard, Vice Mayor Masur and Members of the Council:
I hope you and your families are safe and healthy, and that everyone is navigating this pandemic as well
as possible. Thank you for your leadership in these difficult times. I am contacting you relative to
recommendation 10 - "Direct staff to provide an update to the City Council in October 2020 regarding
the local minimum wage to be effective in January 2021 so that the City Council might consider
postponing the increase to help relieve Redwood City businesses". While I acknowledge that this is a
discussion about having a future discussion, I wanted to let you know where we stand as we were one of
the groups that had the privilege of working closely with you during development of the minimum wage
ordinance. On behalf of the nearly 80,000 working people we represent, we are vehemently opposed to
any postponement of wage increases. Minimum wage workers are some of our most vulnerable
members of the population, and now more than ever need as much financial stability and security as
possible. Further, many of them have huge healthcare deductibles in a time when access to quality
healthcare has never been more critical, particularly as many of them are serving as frontline workers
right now in our grocery stores, drug stores, delivery services and restaurants. Should there be a CPI
increase, we respectfully request that the January 1, 2021 minimum wage increase proceed as
scheduled. Thank you for your consideration.
Respectfully,
Julie Lind, Executive Secretary/Treasurer San Mateo Labor Council
Sent from my iPad
