7.B. - Page 1 of 17 <br />/<�ik <br />Redwood <br />CitylCallifornia <br />Faunded 1867 <br />Ago/ <br />DATE: April 27, 2020 <br />SUBJECT <br />STAFF REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br />Study session to discuss and direct staff concerning a temporary moratorium on commercial evictions <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff recommends that the City Council consider whether to agendize a moratorium on commercial <br />evictions, similar to those enacted by the County of San Mateo, and provide direction. <br />STRATEGIC PLAN GUIDING PRINCIPLE <br />Economic Vitality <br />BACKGROUND <br />On April 6, 2020, the City Council directed City staff to agendize a future discussion concerning a <br />temporary moratorium on commercial evictions. This report provides background on federal, state and <br />local actions taken to date, feedback received from the Redwood City small business community, and <br />what a temporary moratorium on commercial evictions might entail. <br />Local, State and Federal Actions Taken To Date <br />On March 3, 2020, the San Mateo County Health Officer declared a local health emergency throughout <br />the County related to COVID-19.
