From: Linda Kruger
To: PublicComment
Subject: Slow Streets Program
Date: Monday, April 27, 2020 12:21:41 PM
I wonder why the City Council members deem it necessary to spend between $10,000 and
$30,000 to implement this program, which is intended to enforce that on those streets only,
"everyone must obey physical distancing at ALL times". This infers that most people are not
doing so elsewhere, and that if people want to be completely safe, they should drive or walk to
those enclosed streets. It makes one wonder whether people should flock to those areas for
their 'safe' exercising, which would negate the need for these 'slow streets' altogether.
Furthermore, if one lives on one of those streets, one is now told that the street is no longer
"for exercising or playing with people outside of one's household". Why does the City have
the right to tell anyone that they cannot play in their front yard if they're following the rules?
Personally, I believe that people in Redwood City are doing very well on our own, keeping our
distance while walking or running or playing. The City has done what should be done: abide
by the county's orders to shelter in place and close non-essential businesses, parks and
schools. Please, leave our streets alone.
Sincerely,
Linda Kruger
723 Ruby Street
Redwood City
