Should the term of office of board members be limited? On the one hand, there
may be need for turn over on our boards and commissions to engender fresh ideas
and new energy. On the other hand, some very qualified people continue to serve
and give substantial value.

A: Tenn limits were established, in part, due to the tendency by voters to reelect incumbents.
This tendency is not present with the Port Commission since they are appointed by the
City Council. As a result a Port Commissioner mayor may not be reappointed based on
his/her knowledge and experience with the Port. Highly qualified and experienced Port
Commissioners are an asset to the City and Port. Not having tenn limits does not limit
the ability of the City Council to utilize other persons who are interested in service to the
community.

18. Please share the port's current and future plans for the community.

A: See answer to question 26.

19. Where is there any oversight of port directions? Should there be?

A: The oversight ofthe Port Commission is with the City Council as it is with other city
boards and commissions. The Council exercises its oversight by appointment, and if
necessary, removal of a Commissioner.

Port of Redwood City Responses to City Charter Questions 02lO5J08
