A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY AUTHORIZING THE EXPENDITURE OF $148,112 IN FISCAL YEAR 2007-2008 SUPPLEMENTAL LAW ENFORCEMENT SERVICES FUNDS (COPS) AND APPROPRIATE UNUSED COPS FUNDS FROM FY 2006-2007 IN THE AMOUNT OF $3,036 TO THE APPROVED FY 2007-2008 POLICE DEPARTMENT OPERATING BUDGET WHERAS, for the twelfth consecutive year, the Redwood City Police Department has received a State COPS grant; and WHEREAS, the money must be used to supplement existing services and may not be used to supplant any existing funding for law enforcement services; and WHEREAS, It is the Police Chiefs recommendation that $72,822 of this year's award be allocated to the salaries and benefits of pOlice officer positions approved by City council; and WHEREAS, the Police Chief is also recommending that the remaining funds of $75,290, be dedicated to internal service charges and the acquisition of equipment and supplies needed by the police department; and WHEREAS, funds totaling $2,924 from the 2006 COPS grant award were unused during FY2006-2007 and the Department received $112 more than anticipated for the 2007 COPS grant award, the sum of these two amounts is $3,036; and WHEREAS, the Police Chief is also asking Council to appropriate $3,036 of unused 2006-2007 COPS fund to the FY2007 -2008 Police department operating budget. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY, AS FOLLOWS: 1. That $148,112.00 is hereby authorized for the 2007-2008 suppfementallaw enforcement services funds. 2. That $72,822.00 of this year's award be allocated to the salaries and benefits of police officer positions and that the remaining funds of $75,290.00 will be dedicated to internal service charges. 3. That the $3,036.00 be appropriated, from the funds as stated above as additional funds to the FY2007 -2008 budget. ATTY/RESO/RESO.1788 020108
