From:
Joseph Zoucha
To:
PublicComment
Subject:
Single family residence remodel for housing
Date:
Tuesday, April 28, 2020 5:01:44 PM
Please explain what facts ( as opposed to conjecture) about the health and safety of the
public support allowing scores of workers to continue construction work on condos and
apartments while small crews from private contractors (e.g. 2-4) are not allowed to continue
working on the homes of private citizens who need their projects completed finished so that
they can safely reside in their own homes. My wife and I are in our late 60's living in cramped
quarters in our master bedroom in a somewhat a unsafe , unhealthy, moldy and leaking
upstairs bathroom. We cannot safely cook as we have no kitchen. WE can't wash our clothes
as we have no laundry facilities. We live in about 500 square feet in very cramped conditions.
Our project is 60% completed and we're seriously facing spending yet another Thanksgiving
and Christmas holiday living like semi -homeless people. Last year it was bearable as we
thought that by this year's upcoming holiday season we'd have a "normal" living situation.
Now we're facing living like beggars in our own home in mold and without the ability to heat
our home other than with a space heater.
This is particularly pertinent given the fact many homeowners have recently paid their
property taxes after having paid large fees to RWC for building permits.
What information do you have that indicates the public at large is at risk while these private
workers in real property owned by private citizens from all walks of life perform their
supervised services. Does not a private contractor employing several workers have more
knowledge and control as to the health of his/her workers than a large general contractor - or
series of large sub -contractors - regarding dozens of workers? Please do not insult me by
alleging they are more cognizant and vigilant about keeping social distance and wearing
masks.
Why does the County Of San Mateo and many other California cities - parts of Los Angeles
and Sacramento to name two - feel it's safe for their citizens to continue onward with
construction/remodel projects and Redwood City does not? What are the extraordinary health
factors that makes Redwood City more susceptible location for Covid-19 if a home is being
remodeled? After all, this all about Covid-19 and controlling it's spread which we obviously
all want.
Why is a construction site for the remodel of a home 6 blocks to the West of my home in
unincorporated San Mateo County safe and my Redwood City location not? What are the real
facts about the virus which sets Redwood City apart as being a more dangerous locale?
Seriously, what are they? Are we the Covid -19 equivalent of Chernobyl!!!???? Please share
them.
Thank you very much for your time and attention to this sincere ( and admittedly asinine at
times) inquiry. Joseph Zoucha, 58 Hillview Avenue, RWC.
Thank you for your consideration and any response.
