Grade separations would increase safety and decrease anticipated future traffic
delays due to growth, more frequent Caltrain service following corridor electrification, and
future high-speed rail service. The Grade Separation Study builds upon previously completed
studies, updating them with current traffic and site conditions.
Goals
• Develop a long-term grade separation strategy for Redwood City that identifies which
crossings to separate and how the work should be phased.
• Community selects a preferred alternative(s) for grade separations.
Outcomes
• Produce conceptual design plans that can be used to gain community consensus
around a preferred alternative for grade separations.
• Produce a comprehensive project study report (PSR).
Key Decisions or Technical Work Needed to Advance
• Identify station location (dependent on service planning work, constructability and
phasing)
• Determine the number of tracks in Downtown
• Establish footprint required for Dumbarton transit service
Funding
The study is funded with $750,000 in Measure A funds and $100,000 in local matching funds.
Timeline
Initial community meeting anticipated in spring 2020 with a future meeting in fall 2020 and
ultimate completion in mid -2021. The schedule may be modified depending on technical
studies from the Station Visioning and Concept Planning as well as community work on the
Transit District Plan.
REV: 05-07-2020 PR
ATTY/AGR.2020.071/SMCTA and JPB (Page 12 of 23) 180
