�CDCC�TTidtiOTT Teacher and Staff Appreciation Month WHEREAS, teachers along with all school employees, change the lives of millions of children every day—their immense work and impact moves us beyond words; and WHEREAS, with the abrupt end to the physical school year, our teachers and staff have done even more to continue education with virtual classrooms and learning at home lessons, all to ensure every student has the tools they need to reach their full potential; and WHEREAS, school district staff distributed almost 3000 computers and over 600 internet hot spots to students to ensure that they could stay connected with school and their education while distant learning, and WHEREAS, school staff and ourpartners are distributing breakfast, lunch and dinner meals to children under 18 years old every week to ensure that the children in our community have nutritious food during this difficult time; and WHEREAS, it is in these challenging times that we truly recognize and appreciate how our nation's educators and support staffplay such a pivotal role in our children's lives—inspiring a lifelong love of learning and discovery and making a difference in their well-being and long-term success; and WHEREAS, while this year's recognition of their commitment to children will be very different, we thank our teachers, as well as all other staff including administrators, office staff, instructional assistants, custodians, librarians, and child nutrition professionals who have been providing support to our students and families from all of the Redhvood City Schools over the last few months. As the COVID-19 situation started to develop, teachers and staff worked quickly to transition to at-home learning and we are all both grateful and proud of them for always keeping our students at the forefront of their work; and WHEREAS, all teachers and staff are eager to return to their campuses and educate and care for children. The next couple of months will continue to be busy for all school employees as there is much planning to complete for any changes that may be implemented in the 2020-21 school year. This includes planningfor additional resources as well as protocols and procedures for a safe reopening of our schools; and WHEREAS, all of your extraordinary efforts to inspire, educate and motivate our community's children are widely valued and recognized. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT I, DIANE HOWARD, MAYOR OF REDWOOD CITY, on behalfofthe City Council and the residents of Redwood City, do hereby declare that the month of May, 2020 to be recognized as Teacher and StaffAppreciation Month.
