6.H. - Page 1 of 16 <br />/<�ik <br />Redwood <br />CitylCallifornia <br />Faunded 1867 <br />A,&/ <br />DATE: June 8, 2020 <br />SUBJECT <br />STAFF REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br />Adopt City Council position on state legislation, specifically: AB 2553 (Ting); AB 3308 (Gabriel); SB 793 <br />(Hill); and SB 1441 (McGuire) <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />By motion, the City Council Governance Sub -Committee recommends the City Council adopt support <br />positions for AB 2553 (Ting); AB 3308 (Gabriel); SB 793 (Hill); SB 1441 (McGuire); and allow staff to <br />continue to engage on said legislation. <br />STRATEGIC PLAN GUIDING PRINCIPLE <br />Housing <br />Healthy Community for All <br />BACKGROUND <br />In an effort to actively engage the California State Legislature on policy items of importance to the City, <br />on April 27, 2020, the City Council adopted a Legislative Platform. The Platform lays out policy areas that <br />matter most to the City (Housing and Homelessness, Transportation and Children and Youth).The Platform <br />provides guidance to City staff and the City's legislative consultant on state policy areas of City interest in <br />which to engage and monitor. <br />On May 14, 2020, the City Council Governance Subcommittee was briefed by the City's legislative <br />consultant on four legislative Bills AB 2553 (Ting), AB 3308 (Gabriel), SB 793 (Hill), and SB 1441 (McGuire). <br />All four Bills are of specific interest to the City as they pertain to the City Council's priority areas of Housing <br />and Homelessness and Children and Youth.
