6.1. - Page 1 of 82 <br />/<�ik <br />Redwood <br />CitylCallifornia <br />Faunded 1867 <br />A,&/ <br />DATE: June 8, 2020 <br />SUBJECT <br />STAFF REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br />Amendment No. 1 to the agreement for animal control services between the County of San Mateo and <br />20 cities, including the City of Redwood City <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />By motion, approve and authorize the City Manager to execute Amendment No. 1 to extend the <br />agreement with the County of San Mateo for the facilitation and coordination of animal control services <br />for a one-year term ending on June 30, 2021. <br />STRATEGIC PLAN GUIDING PRINCIPLE <br />Public Safety <br />BACKGROUND <br />Since 1952, San Mateo County has contracted with the Peninsula Humane Society (PHS) for animal control <br />field and shelter services. All twenty cities in the County have, in turn, contracted with the County for <br />these services, making this one of the longest running shared services in San Mateo County. Under this <br />contract, these cities along with unincorporated San Mateo County share the cost based on each <br />jurisdiction's proportionate use of animal control services. The City's current animal control services <br />agreement with the County, which was first approved by the City Council in 2015 is set to expire on June <br />30, 2020. <br />This agreement is an amendment for a one-year extension to the animal control services agreement <br />between Redwood City and San Mateo County which also includes a notice to San Mateo County cities <br />regarding the new animal shelter construction costs and a revision of proportionate cost sharing for <br />Page 1 of 3 <br />City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.ore <br />326 <br />
