From:
Hannah ag)L
To:
PublicComment
Subject:
June 10 Town Hall Comment
Date:
Wednesday, June 10, 2020 6:42:09 PM
I have lived in Redwood City for nearly eight years now. I just bought a home here and have
given birth to and begun to raise both of my children here. My children will both attend public
school here and my son will receive disability services due to his Autism Spectrum Disorder. I
have always been proud of this community and I desperately want to continue to be proud of it. I
call on Chief Mulholland and our public officials to restructure the police department, to decrease
its budget and reallocate the funds to public services including the creation of Redwood City's
own mental health services department, which should exist. It is time to make sure that 100% of
the police department receives Crisis Intervention Training and that all officers coming into
contact with the public, for any reason, be required to wear body cameras. Since the police
department budget has been continually increased, budgetary restraints are not an acceptable
excuse for the training to not be completed or for body cameras to not be available. We have an
amazing opportunity right now to change things for the better, let's not waste it.
-Hannah Geyik
