respond to high-priority calls for service? <br />...utilize in -county contracts for specialized equipment that is largely unnecessary, rather than <br />individually arming your troops to the teeth at every turn? <br />It may sound idyllic, but I believe the swollen budget for police is unnecessary and needs <br />drastic change. Funds should be diverted to programs that actually prevent crime, such as <br />better education, affordable housing, mental health and addiction services. I don't have all the <br />answers, but I am adamant in my belief that the current model is deeply flawed and it's <br />incumbent upon us to change it. <br />400+ years of systemic racism, and a policing structure initially created with the core purpose <br />of slave patrol, have evolved to what we know today. We won't be able to course -correct in a <br />matter of months, but decisions need to be made in the present day which will stop the <br />evolution of current broken policing models.
