Comment to city council members of Redwood City for consideration at the June 22, 2020 meeting.
Dear Council Members,
Your agenda is full of important issues tonight. I don't envy the challenges you face on a regular basis in
balancing the needs of Redwood City constituents, and I appreciate your willingness to listen carefully to
our comments.
Many issues like food, shelter, health and safety, and yes, racism, demand immediate responses from
you. Other issues like environment justice and climate change do not have the same crisis quality right
now, but they are equally important in the long run. Without careful planning and commitment to our
city and regional Climate Action Plan, we will end up with other crises down the not -too -distant road.
Many of these issues (food, housing, health and safety) directly overlap with the environmental
challenges presented by climate change.
Please remember that many Redwood City residents continue to work on responding to climate change
and want to work in partnership with you. We can do this together.
Thank you,
Joan Ferguson, 40 -year resident and member of Fossil Free Midpeninsula
202 Rutherford Ave., Redwood City, CA
