From:
Carol Cross
To:
PublicComment
Subject:
Public Comment to be read before item 9.a.
Date:
Monday, June 22, 2020 5:26:00 PM
I'm aware of the outpouring of community opposition that
occurred at the City Council's last public meeting, so
instead of making the same points yet again, I would just
like to add my plea that the money originally destined to
augment the RWC Police Department's budget over last
year's allotment be instead directed to community
services. At the very least, in the light of the nation-wide
protests that have taken place day after day after day, to
vote to give more money to the RWCPD at this time is
just plain tone-deaf.
I'd also like to say how disappointed I am that the City
Manager would choose to take a salary increase at the
same time that our City's budget is being devastated by
the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. One
would think that perhaps postponing such an increase
would be the generous thing to do.
Respectfully submitted,
Carol Cross
You can't have climate change without sacrifice zones, and
you can't have sacrifice zones without disposable people, and
you can't have disposable people without racism.
Hop Hopkins
