6.1 C <br /> Page 1 <br /> REPOF�.T <br /> To the Honorable Mayor a�d City CoWncil <br /> ' ' F�'omi tt�e Cit Mana er <br /> February 25, 2008 <br /> Sua,��cT <br /> Acceptance of Grant Deeds from the Costco Project <br /> RECOMMENbATION <br /> Direct the City Clerk, by motion, to accept four (4} conveyances offered by Costco <br /> Wholesale Carporation, a Delaware Corporation (formerly Price Club), and record the <br /> deeds with the County of San Mateo. Canveyances, as identified on the attached <br /> exhibit, are as follow. <br /> 1. One Public Service Easement for storm drains and water (See Attachment 1}; <br /> 2. One Emergency Access, and Ingress/Egress Easement (See Attachment 2); <br /> 3. One Non-Exclusive Easement for Street Purposes and a Public Service <br /> Easement for Parcel 2{not Costco) (See Attachment 3). <br /> 4. One grant for right of way purposes (See Attachment 4) <br /> BACKGROUND <br /> In June of 2007, Costco abtained an Environmental Clearance, a Use Permit, and <br /> Architectural Permit for #he reconstruction of its 160,000 square foot retail store at 2300 <br /> Middlefield Road. The project requires the removal of the existing warehouse-style <br /> store and construction of a new store on the opposite side of fhe site. Staff proposes <br /> vacatirtg some existing easements/right of ways and accepting ather corresponding, <br /> relocated easements/right of ways to accommodate the proposed project for the <br /> follawing reasons. <br /> + Certain existing utili#ies have ta be re[ocated #o accommodate the new construction. <br /> These utilities include publicly maintained water lines and storm drains. <br /> • Sections of Middlefield Road wilf require widening to accommodate construction of <br /> sidewalks along the frontage of the Costco property. <br /> • The reconfigured driveway entrance to the new store requires an Emergency <br /> Access, and Ingress/Egress easement. <br /> On Feb�uary 19, 2008, the Planning Commission considered the acquisition of Item <br /> Nos. 3 and 4, identified in the recommendation above, and found the acquisitions of <br /> I#em Nos. 3 and 4 to be consistent with the General Plan. <br /> A companion staff report proposing the City vacate existing easements/right of ways <br /> precedes fihis request to accept replacement easements/right of ways. The previously <br /> existing easements/right of ways will be superseded by new easementslright of ways to <br /> accommodate Costco's project. Please see attached map which shows the general <br /> location and shape of the easements/right of ways offered for acceptance. k.egal <br /> descriptians and deeds are availabie for viewing in the City Clerk's office. Deeds will be <br /> executed by the City Manager and recorded with the County of San Mateo upan <br /> Council's acceptance. <br />
