08/10/2020 <br />WHEREAS, it is the responsibility of government to serve and protect all residents <br />and to uphold their civil rights so that all members of our community feel safe; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council seeks to understand our community's experiences, <br />and to assess what changes may be needed to meet our community's needs; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council has committed to the following as initial steps: <br />1. To increase the frequency of ongoing training on racial and cultural <br />diversity, <br />2. To preserve art related to the June 2, 2020, Black Lives Matter protest <br />and develop a temporary display accompanied by resources on racism <br />for community learning, <br />3. To review police use of force policies, consider changes, and report on <br />our findings to the community, and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council will consider opportunities to increase community <br />involvement in Police policies and activities and to strengthen the City's commitment to <br />diversity, equity and inclusion within the City organization and in the provision of City <br />services; and <br />WHEREAS, the City Council is committed to listening, learning, and collaborating <br />with our community to seek the change that we need and to identify clear actions going <br />forward. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF REDWOOD CITY that the City of Redwood City will lead by example through the <br />equitable treatment of all people by City officials and departments; and <br />BE IT ALSO RESOLVED that the City of Redwood City will commit to ongoing <br />review of City policies to ensure equal treatment of all residents; and <br />BE IT ALSO RESOLVED that the City of Redwood City will continue to improve in <br />these areas in all City operations and will work to promote these values in our community. <br />Collectively and individually, we will continue to work for our values, and only through <br />tough conversations and hard work can our nation's wounds begin to heal.
