It
is essential. This cannot wait. Some of them could die. This is a
solution that must be immediately implemented as a URGENT, Top
Priority for the City of Redwood City. What if some of them die due
to inadequate water? That would be unconscionable. That MUST
NOT be allowed to happen. Please make this happen ASAP, within a
week. Please just do it! Right now."
"Everyone should have access to clean drinking water"
"This is a necessity!!!!"
"Lack of access to water causes serious health problems for
individuals—dehydration, complications related to diabetes, and
sometimes death. Homeless persons with underlying health
conditions, disabilities, or other mental or physical challenges face
the most serious risks. Women are also disproportionately affected
by lack of access to water, particularly with regard to health issues.
Furthermore, AB 685 states that every human being has the right
to safe, clean, affordable, and accessible water adequate for human
consumption, cooking, and sanitary purposes."
"Clean drinking water should be accessible to everyone.
"This is basic human needs and dignity."
"This is a human rights issue - Maslow's own hierarchy of needs
identifies food, shelter and WATER as the most basic and essential.
By this framework, people who are unhoused are already at a
disadvantage. Our city MUST do more to grant them access to water
immediately!"
"This is needed"
"Redwood city needs to provide free water for its citizens"
"I know this would help homeless people."
"If we can provide water for dogs, we can provide water for people."
"Water is a basic human right not to mention a public resource.
Anyone enjoying Redwood City's public spaces should have access
to clean drinking water. That includes unhoused residents, people
strolling recreationally in the heat, people with medical conditions,
kids, or really anyone who feels thirsty. The presence of public water
fountains is a message to the community that "we care about your
health, safety, and comfort" and "your basic human needs matter.""
Nadine Wright Redwood City, CA 2020-08-22 "Everyone deserves fresh water; it's a necessity to life."
