Dear Mayor Howard,
I hope you are doing well and managing through these challenging times. We are fortunate
to have your continued steady leadership.
I wanted to reach out in advance of tonight's council meeting to provide a bit of background
on one of the projects that is up for discussion as part of the gatekeeper process and the work
that the developer is doing in the community.
In mid-August, RCEF launched our Back -to -school campaign to provide mental health
counseling, school supplies, and wifi access to the 1,700 students at Hoover, Garfield and
Taft, which serve a lower-income population. I reached out to Mike with Premia Capital to
ask for modest support in the range of $15,000-20,000. Totally unprompted, Mike offered
to underwrite half the total goal amount of the campaign. Their $125,000 gift is the largest
gift RCEF has received in a single year in our 37 -year history.
While RCEF does not take a position on the planning merits of a project, we wanted to
provide you with some background information on the amazing work they have done to
support our community, and in particular, our schools, as we know seeing meaningful
investments in our nonprofits from developers is important to council. This contribution
provides essential resources to a vulnerable population that has suffered the most from the
effects of COVID. More than ever are community partners like Premia needed, and they set
a great example to other developers who are looking to do business in our community.
I hope you are well. Best of luck at the meeting tonight, and please give my best to Dr.
Howard as well!
Jason Galisatus
Executive Director
Redwood City Education Foundation
Phone: 650-521-1772
www.rcef.org
