<br />6.18 <br />Page 1 <br /> <br />R:EPORT <br /> <br />To th~ HanQrable Mayor and CiW Coun'oil <br />FrpmthgQ'[, ' Matl$,~r <br /> <br />March 10, 2008 <br /> <br />SUBJECT <br />Approval of Agreement for Construction Improvements for Costco <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Approve, by motion, the Agreement for Construction Improvements with Costco <br />Wholesale Corporation, as owners of record of said real property located at 2300 <br />Middlefield Road, Redwood City, California. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />In June of 2007, Costco obtained Environmental Clearance, a Use Permit, and <br />Architectural Permit for the reconstruction of its 160,000 square foot retail store on 2300 <br />Middlefield Road. The project requires the removal of the existing warehouse-style <br />store and construction of a new store on the opposite side of the site. Construction of <br />the new warehouse requires construction of off-site improvements that include <br />reconfigui'ation of a portion of Middlefreld Road, a new signalized intersection with <br />entrance to the project, undergrounding overhead utilities, landscaping and irrigation <br />systems, and construction of a much needed sidewalk along the frontage of Middlefield <br />Road. <br /> <br />The estimated cost for these improvements is $818,250.00. Costco is responsible for <br />the total cost of the improvements. The developer's engineer, Kier & Wright Engineers <br />and Surveyors, has completed the plans and specifications of the facilities <br />improvements to the satisfaction of the Engineering and Construction Department.
