From:
Robin Guzzo
To:
GRP -City Council
Subject:
ADU's
Date:
Monday, October 12, 2020 3:03:50 PM
Mayor Howard and City Council members,
We urge you to please adopt the draft ordinance as proposed by staff. We wholeheartedly agree with
staff findings that limit detached ADU's to sixteen feet in height. Further we agree that single story ADU's
are more in line with our General Plan and not as intrusive to neighbors and neighborhoods alike.
As a Realtor for 31 years and married to a General Contractor the ADU's that have been proposed and/or
built are not providing help to our houising crisis. Although many applicants have claimed this is their
objective, very few have actually provided affordable housing. Property owners have a pattern of living in
their homes. Two Story ADU's bring about a distruption in how families live in their home life and yards.
The two story buildings looming over all affect such things as family gardens and fruit trees that have
flouished with sun exposure over the years and are supplemental food source to many. There are
additional harmful consequences to consider as well as a result of the two story ADU's. Very little has
been mentioned about fire hazards when these ADU's are so close to existing surrounding properties.
What we we have gained is neighborhood angst, lack of privacy, lack of sunlight in our yards and parking
problems in our already congested streets and neighborhoods. Two story ADU's do not address the
housing crisis and are anything but affordable.
The draft ordinance is fair and balanced for all. We urge you to please adopt the recommendations
tonight.
John M. Gonzales and Robin D. Guzzo
Mt. Carmel Residents
