Support for planning of 2300 Broadway and 609 Price Ave. This letter expresses our support of and request for approval of the initiation of the planning process for the mixed-use project proposed for 2300 Broadway and 609 Price Ave, as the State Council on Developmental Disabilities Bay Area Regional Office. The 81 new affordable housing units, to be developed by MidPen Housing at this location, are urgently needed and are an exciting opportunity. The CA State Council on Developmental Disabilities supports systems change, capacity building, and quality of services within the community for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. Statewide affordable, inclusive housing options for individuals with developmental disabilities must be increased and enhanced through access to housing and subsidies. Permanent, affordable, accessible and sustained housing options must be continually developed to meet both current and future needs in areas like Redwood City. Redwood City faces a growing need for permanent, accessible and affordable housing for its residents. For example, Redwood City is home to 680 people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who receive services from the Golden Gate Regional Center. This includes residents under 18 years of age who live with their families, struggling financially to remain in Redwood City and to avoid displacement. This also includes adults with developmental disabilities, most of whom are living at home with aging parents because of the inability to secure an affordable apartment in their home community. MidPen Housing has been a reliable and dedicated community partner in bringing inclusive, welcoming communities to life, and we look forward to seeing this project initiated with these partners. The development of affordable, inclusive housing is critical for the city. Redwood City remains well below its RHNA targets for Very Low and Low -Income apartments, and that gap is expected to grow in the next RHNA cycle. Redwood City needs this project and others like it to meet this need. Please initiate the planning process for 2300 Broadway/609 Price.
