As the Commander of Post 105, I always felt the proposed development could be a dream come true for both The Post and RWC. In voting to support the Project going forward, the Post Membership agreed. However, having had the opportunity to read the Staff Report dated October 12, 2020, I am now concerned the City may consider reducing the total number of units to be built from the currently proposed total of 309. In considering this issue, I respectfully request that you consider the following: When the Post was negotiating the terms of the agreement with Republic, Republic was told there were three items that were non-negotiable: if !supportLists]-->1. The construction of a new Post facility on the same site the Post has occupied for more than 70 years: if ! supportLists] -->2.  The Project would include low-income housing with a preference given to veterans :and if ! supportLists] -->3. The Project would include a new veteran service officer's position that would serve the immediate needs of veterans in general and the occupants of the low income preference units in particular. The Post was pleased those three significant items are included in the final development Agreement. Unfortunately, reducing the density for the market - rate housing will reduce the number of low-income units. Therefore. on behalf of myself and the entire membership of Post 105, I respectfully request that the Project be approved without any reduction in the proposed density.
