From:
Aileen Sweeney
To:
GRP -City Council
Cc:
Council-Giselle Hale
Subject:
please advance the Chase Bank project proposal from Tishman Speyer + MidPen Housing
Date:
Monday, October 12, 2020 2:38:00 PM
Dear Redwood City Council Members,
I am writing to urge the Council to move forward the Chase Bank project proposal from
Tishman Speyer and MidPen Housing at tonight's City Council meeting.
I am a homeowner (Mt. Carmel) and small business owner here in Redwood City. I am proud
to be part of this community and am continually impressed by efforts of community leaders
and residents to continually improve our city -- economically and socially -- including leading
the way in our region with smart development.
I have reviewed and discussed the Chase Bank project proposal with Henry Sears and have
been impressed with how they have been listening to the community and are committed to
providing community benefits that we need in the Redwood City -- development that is near
public transit, green public space in the downtown area, and desperately needed affordable
housing.
Their plan proposes the most affordable units (80) at the deepest levels of affordability of any
of the Gatekeeper proposals. Many of these units would be family sized 2 and 3 bedroom units
that would be truly affordable to local families. In addition, it would create 20,000 square feet
of much needed public green space and high quality public restrooms in the heart of
downtown directly adjacent to the Courthouse Square.
I know staff workload is a real issue. I urge you to find a way for this project to move forward.
The proposed 80 unit affordable housing development at 609 Price Ave represents a precious
opportunity to build affordable units at scale in Redwood City that would be lost if the project
is not permitted to proceed.
Thank you for your consideration.
Best regards,
Aileen
Aileen Sweeney
