City's assistance to reduce its size. A number of my neighbors have repeatedly
reached out to one council member in particular, who now with district elections is
supposed to represent them, who instead supports greater two story ADUs in the
name of affordable housing. It makes one wonder what interests are really at play.
I happened upon an advertisement in the newspaper just yesterday, in the Real
Estate section. It was for JSM Homes- a provider of quality ADUs that are built right
on site. They provide preset floor plans ranging from 352 sq ft to 485 sq ft one
bedroom, junior one bedroom or studios. With prices starting at $275,000. If that is
the cost of a simple one story ADU, one could only imagine the cost of the scrape and
build over a detached garage that we have seen as a result of our flawed ordinance.
If the goal is what you say it is- increasing affordable housing stock, streamlining the
process to construct affordable housing stock, and incentivizing a type of housing
that is actually affordable to build and therefore rented at a more affordable rate,
then adopt the recommendation made by staff.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Rachel Holt
