This week's question is about Redwood City's budget.
BACKGROUND: In June, City Council requested revisions to the 2020-21 budget. Concerns
were raised about the impact of COVID-19, and some members of the public spoke out
against increased police funding. Next Monday Oct. 26 is the public hearing to discuss
these revisions, which include hiring freezes in several departments (chiefly police) and
pausing the use of 1 fire engine. There's also new funding for housing, climate change
initiatives, community development, equity programs, and a pilot that pairs mental health
providers with police.
QUESTION: From 1 (strongly OPPOSE) to 5 (strongly SUPPORT), please rate the
statement: "I support City Council adopting the revised 2020-21 budget."
LEARN MORE: Visit https://voc.as/rwc-budget to read the revised budget.
(reply STOP to end)
