From: SHARON BECKER
To: GRP -City Council
Subject: Proposed cuts to RWC Fire Departments
Date: Saturday, October 24, 2020 8:50:23 AM
Dear RWC Council members,
I understand the city manger has recommended a 20% cut to Redwood City's Fire
Departments. I am at a loss to understand how this could even be a consideration.
We are in the midst of yet another red flag warning for high winds, low humidity and
drought conditions. I live in the Mt. Carmel area, where our neighborhood sits among
beautiful heritage oaks and city planted trees. However, they are all showing signs of
drought stress. If not protected, how easily a fire in our area could become another
fire like Santa Rosa experienced.
The Council has and continues to, approve increased housing (many are multi -story
structures). To fight a multi -story structure fire, a ladder truck would be necessary,
which is located at Station 9. 1 understand this Station would be particularly affected
by the proposed cuts.
Frankly, this does not make any sense. Do not undercut our infrastructures at a time
climate change and increased population make our city so vulnerable.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sharon Becker
