it, the City would face even greater deficits.
The Revised Budget reduces expenditures in all City departments, including $4.9 million
in funding for public safety services (5-6% of Fire and Police Department expenditures).
Total reductions are $7.7 million.
The reductions do not lay off any employees; they selectively maintain existing staff
vacancies while we work with employees to assess opportunities to reduce costs and
modify service delivery approaches. We are hopeful that this work will move quickly.
Thank you for reaching out to the City Council and may you and your family be healthy
and safe.
In Community Spirit,
Diane Howard
Mayor of Redwood City
(650) 208-4774
-----Original Message -----
From: David Chassin
Sent: Monday, October 26, 2020 1:42 PM
To: GRP -City Council <counciI@redwood city.org>
Subject: Proposed cut to fire department budget
Dear Redwood City Council member,
I just found out that you are considering cutting the emergency services budget and
removing RCFD Engine 9 from service. I live on the corner of Main and Marshall, and I
can tell from first-hand observation that this is a very busy engine. At a time when
medical emergencies are on the rise due to COVID-19 that last thing you should be
doing is cutting the front-line services we need and pay for. I have to ask you with all
due respect "are you out of your minds!?!" I'm sure that are a great many other things
that are less important you can cut than this. Tell your staff to go back and do their
homework before bringing to you such an inane budget proposal.
Sincerely,
David and Norma Chassin
Redwood City, CA 94063
