and safe.
In Community Spirit,
Diane Howard
Mayor of Redwood City
(650) 208-4774
-----Original Message -----
From: Heather Travis >
Sent: Saturday, October 24, 2020 8:59 PM
To: GRP -City Council <counciI@redwood city.org>
Subject: KEEP ENGINE 9
RWC Council,
I am a longtime Redwood City resident and taxpayer who voted in FAVOR of the sales
tax increase of Measure RR in order to maintain the highest levels of public safety. I am
appalled that you council members have the audacity to consider closing down Engine
9 in such a sneaky way (with only a few days for the public to voice protest).
We are in the midst of the worst public safety crisis of modern times. Why on earth
would you cut vital first responding capability in the MIDST OF A PANDEMIC?!?
Furthermore, the wild fires in the Bay Area are increasing in scope and scale each year.
Our firefighters and first responders are the MOST CRUCIAL civil servants.
It is absolutely irresponsible for you council members to reduce public safety capability
in these unprecedented times. You were elected to represent the residents of
Redwood City. Well, we made it clear with Measure RR that public safety was our
number one concern. So, do what you were elected to do; trim budgets with non-
essential services and scaling back bureaucratic costs. Keep Engine 9 protecting and
saving the lives of your constituents.
Emphatically,
Heather Soto
