7.A. - Page 14 of 16
Project Considered:
The City of Redwood City and the County of San Mateo would enter into a land swap agreement to provide the
right-of-way needed to extend Blomquist Street across Redwood Creek and continue operation of services to
individuals facing homelessness on County -owned land within the Inner Harbor. As currently proposed, the City
would offer a portion of the approximate three -acre vacant 1402 Maple Street site to the County of San Mateo
in exchange for County -owned two -acre property at 1580 Maple Street.
At the 1402 Maple Street site, the County would potentially construct a low -barrier navigation center and
transitional housing; the remaining acres would be dedicated to the City and a portion abutting the waterfront
to the State of California as public land.
The City would acquire two acres at 1580 Maple Street (currently occupied by a vacant women's jail and an
operating homeless shelter) for the purpose of extending Blomquist Street through the Inner Harbor area and
north across Redwood Creek, connecting to the Bair Island neighborhood. In addition, the City and County may
collaborate to develop longer-term affordable housing on the remnant parcel.
HARBORDRAFT INNER
OR GUIDING PRINCIPLES
To create a unique and vibrant neighborhood and
The vision describes an active destination and
destination on the Bay, and to connect Redwood City
neighborhood capitalizing on its Bayfront location. These uses are, generally, not active in
the evening. As such, the active day/night
environment is not precluded from occurring
elsewhere within the Inner Harbor (waterfront) but
would not occur on the two areas proposed for the
land swap.
3.
