Box 60211
Palo Alto CA. 94306
650-815-1174
wkostura328@gmail.com
Joy Beasley, Keeper of the Register
Jay Correia, California Office of Historic Preservation
Amy H. Crain, State Historian II, California Office of Historic Preservation
May 11, 2020
Dear Ms. Beasley, Mr. Correia, and Ms. Crain:
On behalf of my clients, members of the Redwood City Woman's Club, I am pleased to submit
this nomination of their club building to the National Register of Historic Places. The club was
founded in 1909 in order to create a social outlet for the women of Redwood City, California,
and to give its members opportunities to engage in a wider scope of civic activities than they had
previously had. Their club building was built in 1911, is a fine example of the Craftsman style of
architecture, retains high integrity, and has served the club as its clubhouse continuously to the
present day.
The property name is: Redwood City Woman's Club
The property owner is: Redwood City Woman's Club, 149 Clinton Street, Redwood City,
California, 94062-1515
This nomination is being submitted on behalf of the property owner. The contact person is:
Elaine Park, President. Phone: 650-714-1002. E-mail: elainepark@comcast.net.
We hope you will agree that the clubhouse is locally significant both under Criterion A, for its
long history as a home for a women's organization, and under Criterion C, for its architecture. If
you have any questions about my documentation, or wish to suggest any improvements, please
feel free to contact me.
William Kostura
577
