V40damation <br />Honoring Senator Jerry Hill <br />WHEREAS, the tenure of the Honorable Jerry Hill with the California State Senate is drawing to <br />a close following 8 years of exemplary service to the Senate and 12 years in the California State <br />Legislature, and it is appropriate at this time to highlight the many achievements of his illustrious <br />duration in office and extend him the highest commendations; and <br />WHEREAS, prior to his service in the State house, Jerry Hill shaped local legislation while serving <br />on the San Mateo City Council from 1991 to 1998, followed by ten years on the San Mateo County <br />Board of Supervisors; and <br />WHEREAS, Senator Hill authored SB 996, which aided local nonprofits and religious <br />organizations, including Redwood City's St. Francis Center, to provide affordable housing by <br />increasing the assessed property value exemption from $2, 000,000 to $10, 000, 000 annually; and <br />WHEREAS, Senator Hill authored SB 1249 after Redwood City leaders called on regulators to do <br />more to protect residents from toxic fires that occurred at a metal recycling -facility in November <br />and December of 2013; and <br />WHEREAS, Senator Hill's work to safeguard public wellness and protect and enhance the life of <br />residents of Redwood City and neighboring communities has spanned his long career in public <br />service, including SB 793 which placed restrictions on the sale offlavored tobacco, SB 350 which <br />ensured safety and accountability in PG&E operations following a deadly pipeline explosion, <br />SB 222 which prevented housing and discrimination against veterans and military personnel and <br />SB 705 which allowed San Mateo County residents to vote on local transportation projects; and <br />WHEREAS, Senator Hill, with great compassion and wisdom, was a tenacious lawmaker with a <br />deep commitment to improving the safety, well-being and quality of life for the people of Redwood <br />City, the Bay Area and the State of California; and <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT I.
