6.C. - Page 1 of 31 <br />/<�ik <br />Redwood <br />CitylCallifornia <br />Faunded 1867 <br />A,&/ <br />DATE: November 9, 2020 <br />SUBJECT <br />STAFF REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br />Property donation to the City of Redwood City by Mel and Marguerite Casey, Trustees of the Casey Family <br />Trust, for the purposes of open space <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Adopt a resolution approving the Donation Agreement between Mel and Marguerite Casey, Trustees of <br />the Casey Family Trust, and the City of Redwood City of 9 parcels for the City's open space purposes, and <br />authorizing the City Manager to execute all necessary documents to effectuate the donation. <br />STRATEGIC PLAN GUIDING PRINCIPLE <br />Healthy Community for All <br />BACKGROUND <br />The Canyon Lane Development Project, where 12 homes would be built within the County of San Mateo <br />property boundary, and adjacent to Garrett Park in Redwood City, has been in a planning phase for a <br />number of years. <br />In April 2020, City staff received an inquiry from the Casey family regarding whether the City would be <br />interested in receiving a donation of 9 parcels, totaling 81,858 square feet or 1.88 acres, that is adjacent <br />to the 6.9 acre Garrett Park. The Casey family indicated that they are not interested in proceeding with <br />their proposed development project, and would rather donate their parcels for the purposes of open <br />space to the City of Redwood City. <br />As staff was conducting the due diligence of assessing the parcels and developing the donation paperwork, <br />the Casey's offered one additional parcel along Canyon Lane, but not contiguous with the other nine. <br />Page 1 of 4 <br />City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.ore <br />62 <br />
