This
planned project is a huge detriment to our city. Many current business's within the proposed perimeter of the project will be forced out of
business, because they will not or cannot afford to relocate, or to financially substain the cost of higher rents and all the costs associated
with that. Secondly, the business's, for many, many years, have contributed to a healthy workforce and substantial income and taxes to the
citie's coffers. Third, over 2700 blue collar workers support the area and various business's, that rely on their employment. Lastly, the last
thing we need is more towers, square unattractive "boxes", that take away what is left of what was once a very unique beautiful place.
There has been an attempt to "urbanize" our city to resemble any other copy cat large city. There are so many towers already built that
have enormous vacancies, contrary to what you attempt to convince us is not true, and some are being subsidized in order to allow
companies, such as Google, Facebook and Box, to use them for transitional employees, at least until the pandemic struck.
And, in order to make this project happen, once again you are willing to remove some historical structures, places of recreation, and
substitute new business over new housing. And, instead of all these towers, that mostly are built as rental income, very little purchase for
ownership has been built, that could generate more income through taxes for the city.
And, once again you have chosen a company that has been used so many times, over many objections, that leaves many of us to believe that
private interests are being favored, for obvious reasons.
Nothing is ever mentioned about critical issues, such as availability and sources of fresh water for many years to come, as climate change
has to be a precedent in order to sustain this new growth, our infrastructure and transportation issues will have to be completely renovated
and brought up to date. Traffic through out the downtown core area is already a nightmare, while in this pandemic and once things return to
a new normal, it will only get extremely worse.
Now is the time to put a halt to this irresponsible construction and lack of responsibility, and accountability to the people of our city. Many
of us are not against growth, something that is inevitable and expected, but must be done reasonably and healthy for the entire community.
One last thing about the way things have been going on in our city. Probably one of the most idiotic examples: the new Chick -fila just
recently opened on Whipple, in place of McDonalds. It has created a traffic nightmare and is hurting other businesses in the area. No
matter what or who processed traffic survey's, it was not at all thought out or vetted properly. It was rushed through all in the name of
increased revenue and not a thought for the horrible outcome it has caused.
Thank you and I hope serious consideration will be given to my email, and hopefully to others that are as concerned for the welfare of our
city, business's and residents.
Sincerely
Sent from my iPhone
On Nov 9, 2020, at 8:14 AM, Kris Johnson > wrote:
sorry about the confusion on the forwarded email subject line
THIS PROJECT GOES TO COUNCIL TONIGHT!
On Mon, Nov 9, 2020 at 8:10 AM Kris Johnson > wrote:
Hello all,
Here's a link to the letter I sent to Council late last night.
