This Bay Area Office of the State Council on Developmental Disabilities would support the project as currently stated and looks forward to seeing this project move forward in the process, with your consideration. Of these 39 affordable apartments, HIP Housing has proposed that eight of the apartments be subject to a preference for residents who meet the Extremely Low - Income criteria, and who have developmental disabilities. These residents would also have access to independent living and housing support services. Additionally, the reduced parking proposed for the affordable housing is projected to work well with the transit use of many people with developmental disabilities. The CA State Council on Developmental Disabilities supports systems change, capacity building, and quality of services within the community for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. Statewide affordable, inclusive housing options for individuals with developmental disabilities must be increased and enhanced through access to housing and subsidies. Permanent, affordable, accessible and sustained housing options must be continually developed to meet both current and future needs in areas like Redwood City. Redwood City faces a growing need for permanent, accessible and affordable housing for its residents. The affordable housing apartments proposed at 1304 EI Camino Real are urgently needed in Redwood City, particularly by the City's residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Redwood City is home to approximately 680 people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who receive services from the Golden Gate Regional Center. This includes residents under 18 years of age who live with their families, struggling financially to remain in Redwood City and to avoid displacement.
